Potential uses: It's thought that dong quai may lessen menopausal symptoms, high blood pressure, anemia, constipation, and allergic reactions.
Usual dose: 4.5 grams of powdered herb per day.
Are there any risks? Taking dong quai for a short time is considered safe. But the effects of taking it for a long time or at high doses have not been studied.
What does the research show? Not enough research has been done to determine the safety or effectiveness of dong quai for relieving menopausal symptoms. No studies have included breast cancer patients.
